GiveMN was established in 2009 as a collaborative effort led by the Minnesota Community Foundation, alongside various organizations dedicated to enhancing the state's wellbeing. In an effort to generate enthusiasm for its launch, GiveMN introduced Give to the Max Day, which resulted in a remarkable demonstration of generosity, raising $14 million in just 24 hours. This event has evolved into an annual tradition, enabling thousands of organizations to collect funds aimed at improving quality of life both in Minnesota and globally.

The people of Minnesota have welcomed Give to the Max Day with enthusiasm, recognizing it as more than just a single day of giving. GiveMN facilitates a year-round online platform designed to connect individuals with nonprofits and schools, promoting ongoing charitable contributions. Since its inception, GiveMN.org has attracted over 750,000 donors, generating nearly $400 million for approximately 14,000 nonprofits and schools.

In 2015, GiveMN began enhancing its approach to fundraising, responding to the needs of nearly 70% of Minnesota nonprofits that expressed uncertainty about their fundraising strategies. This led to the creation of RaiseMN, an initiative aimed at strengthening these organizations' fundraising strategies and infrastructure to ensure they can sustain their missions effectively.
