Building Spotlight Series: Washburn Lofts
Washburn Lofts
Washburn Lofts is a gem of riverfront luxury real estate with deep ties to Minneapolis history.
The Washburn Lofts building was built in 1914 as part of the Washburn A Mill Complex. At the time Minneapolis was known as “The Flour Milling Capital of the World.” The building served many purposes, including housing the original Betty Crocker Test Kitchen, and was converted to condos in 2003. The iconic terra cotta figures gracing the crown of the building were designed to each represent a flour miller, and are from the original construction.
Washburn Lofts is a boutique building designed for light and space. The ceiling heights are a standard of 12 feet, and each of the 21 home includes original concrete and masonry juxtaposed with new. Washburn Lofts holds the record for a sale of highest price per square foot on MLS in Minneapolis.
The Mill District
Nestled along the river, the Mill District is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Minneapolis. In the 19th century the Mill District supported the booming milling industry in its peak, including the then largest flour mill in the world. It is now a bustling neighborhood of mixed historic and contemporary homes, abundant parks, and locally owned businesses.
Close to restaurants, parks, event venues, freeways, and the river - this neighborhood is perfect for those who like to have everything Minneapolis has to offer at their fingertips.
